The Book of Esther is one of the five scrolls in the "Writings" section of the Bible. It tells the story of the attempted extermination of the Jews of the Kingdom of Persia during the reign of King Ahasuerus and their rescue. This event, according to the scroll, served as the basis for determining the holiday of Purim. At the center of the scroll is the plot of Haman, the senior minister in the kingdom, to destroy all the Jews, when Mordecai the Jew and his cousin Esther, who is chosen at the beginning of the story to be queen, and thanks to her position and resourcefulness, manages to thwart Haman's plot. According to Halacha, there is a mitzvah to read the scroll on Purim, at night and during the day. This mitzvah is called "Mitzvah Makara Megillah".
Each scroll is written by a certified scribe.
